So you want to start out your business in the world of social media but you don’t know where to begin. Sure, it can be daunting and confusing but let’s go over some steps about where you want to start.
The most important thing to consider is that you don’t want to just open up a Facebook or Twitter account and post without thinking about what you want to say, how you want to say it and overall, what you’re trying to convey to users out there.
So, let’s take a minute to consider something important before you dive into social media. The first thing you want to do in the planning stage is to ask yourself this: what exactly do you want to achieve? Sure, you want to be ambitious but you also want to be realistic about what social media can do for you. Here’s some suggestions to consider as you map out your broader goals:
- You want to get the word out about your company itself, getting it some name recognition.
- More specifically, you also want to get the word out about the great work that your company does.
- Through your social media properties (i.e. Facebook, Twitter), you want to put a human & professional face on your company.
- You want to also use your SM properties to set yourself apart as an authority in your field.
So, you have a good start there. It’s good to have more general ideas about what you want to do with social media as you can start to fill in details later as you plan out (which we’ll go over).
So far, so good! Next time, we’ll go over how to do an inventory of your assets so you can prep them for your social media posts.
