Now that you’re planning and posting and keeping track of your own social media work, you’re all set, right? Well, not quite. You’re doing well but because social media is a field that changes by the day/hour/minute, you have to keep up with all of the news surrounding it as well as the latest technology and tips that go along with it. To make sure that you’re working efficiently and getting the most out of your social media properties, here are some resources that will help you keep up with the latest happenings in this exciting, ever-changing field:

True, they’re a generalized tech site but since so much of the latest tech news is about social media (which they frequently cover), this is a valuable resource. Also, they have a good Twitter resource that covers SM in particular- https://twitter.com/atdsocial
- Business Insider
BI covers biz (no surprise, right?) but their SAI select newsletter covers social media in particular nicely.
- GigaOM Daily Newsletter
This newsletter specifically focuses on social media and usually they’re specifically focused on the financial side of SM as well as speculating about the future of it.
- Mediabistro: All Facebook
Billed as the unofficial Facebook blog, this site keeps track of all the latest news on FB. Mediabistro also has an Inside Facebook site, focusing more on the financial particulars of FB: http://www.insidefacebook.com/
- Mediabistro: All Twitter
Not content to dominate news on one social media platform, Mediabistro also offers up this worthwhile site/service to give you the latest news and interesting stories about Twitter too.
- Social Media Today Group on LinkedIn
- Social Media Marketing group on LinkedIn
Yes, LinkedIn is also a valuable resource for new, especially its groups (which not enough people know about yet). These two social media groups not only post important stories about the SM field but also have users asking questions and getting advice from SM experts (I like to contribute to these groups myself).
- Social Media Today
A great resource for white papers and useful lists about social media that you’ll want to bookmark and share. Plus, they run the social media group on LinkedIn mentioned above.
- SocialOomph Service
This is a great free service with a lot of twitter tools attached to it but the most useful service that I find here is that they let you set up subscriptions to get lists of twitter updates by topic (i.e. you could set up a search about ‘astrophysics’ and get a daily list of topics in that area that have been tweeted about).
- TechCrunch
Overall, a quality site/news service that looks into all the latest info about new technology and services. They also have a site devoted to Facebook itself: http://techcrunch.com/tag/facebook/
- Today on CNET
Another essential general techie news service. This one in particular is the newsletter from the stalwart folks at CNET. Like TechCrunch, not always focusing on social media itself, but gives you a good overview of the tech landscape always (which usually has some connection to SM).
